Driving or walking instructions: The hotel is located in 750 meters from the Khan's Palace, the main (but by no means the only) touristic attraction of Bakhicharay. From the Khan's Palace we start on the main street towards Chufut-Kale, and walk around 300 meters. On the way we pass a town squre with a Soviet-era grocery store, where most of the marshrutki (small private city buses) stop. Continue on the same road until the first street to the left. Take that street (this is our Ostrovskogo stree, goes up the hill) about 200 meters, until there is a T - take right (and still more up) there, continue walking another 150 meters, and the last house (you will recognize it from the photos) is Dilara-Hanum. Welcome! We have a google map to the left to illustrate the road. GPS: 44.748874, 33.887833. To increase the scale double-click the left mouse button on the map; to decrease the scale - double-click the right button. Instructions how to get to Bakhchisaray from Simferopol (in Russian)? |
We can store your excess luggage for a few hours or days, if you plans demand that you travel light. Luggage is stored in a secure room, and storage is free of charge, of course.

Tatar coffee is complex. Everyone here is a coffee addict, as every friends chat starts with a cup of coffee, of course. Main features of the Tatar coffee are that the beans must be freshly baked, very fine-grounded, better on a hand grinder, and cooked slowly by putting a tea spoon of coffee in boiling water. Lately many people started cooking coffee on hot sand, claiming that this way the coffee is heated more slowly, and becomes tastier. But this may be a little too exotic.
People here dring coffee in very small china cups, usually with some skim milk and raw sugar in pieces. Goes very well with the Tatar butter cookies - kurabie.
Our coffe is good, and a nice talk that usually goes together with it is even better. However, for the best coffee in Crimea you would have to travel to Kezlev (Evpatoriia). There, in the Odun Kapisi coffee house, which sits on the second floor of the recently restored gate tower of the city, they make coffe that is truly unforgettable.
Bakchisaray is rich in cultural and natural attractions. The most famous of them are the Bakhchisaray's ancient Khan's Palace, numerous "cave towns", the Great Canyon. Practically all the localities are within an easy driving or walking (if you are a fan of hiking) distance. Bakhchisaray is also locately closely to all the interesting sites of Western Crimea - Sevastopol, Saki, Evpatoria, Tarhankut. All of those places are close enough for a convenient day-trip. Below we propose a brief overview of the most frequently visited places in and around Bakhchisaray:
|
The Khan's Palace - ancient, light, simple and beautiful with its fountains, trees, yards, mosques, harems and towers. For seveal hundred years the epicenter of Crimea's political life. Do not leave without visiting the "Fountain of Tears" made famous in Pushkin's poem. |
Zindzhirli Medrese - the oldest "university" in Crimea, associated with the name of Ismail Gaspirali, a famour Crimean Tatar intellectual. Recently the Medrece underwent a comprehensive restoration, and is awaiting its visitors. |
Uspenskii Monastery - ancient, entirely restored, and currently operating, Uspenskii dates its history to the Crimean Khanate days. In approximately 3 km. from Dilara-Hanum, on the way to Chufut-Kale, the cave town. |
Chufut-Kale - one of the most famous "cave towns" in Crimea. You reach it by walking through a canyon between two plateus. There are more than a hundred caves, old walls, the Karaim prayer houses, gates and breath-taking views. |
Balta-Tiimez - a Karaim cemetery in several hundred meters after the Chufut Kale, on the way to Tepe Kermen "cave town". |
|

Eski-Kermen - another old "cave town", away from the beaten paths, 14 km. from Bakhchisaray. |
Tepe-Kermen - "cave town" in 10 km. from Bakhchisaray, accessible mainly by foot. Not a bad one-day hiking trip. |

Donkey farm - in Zalesnoie village, 18 km. from Bakhchisaray. There are around 30 donkeys of Central Asian origins on the farm, you can rent them for hourly trips in the nearby forest. The owners claim that the farm is unique in Ukraine. |
Ai-Petri - a famous plato with a breathtaking view of the Southern Coast is only 40 kilometers from Bakhchisaray. You drive or walk past the Great Canyon on a winding road in a forest. Undoubtedly one of the most exciting trips one can take in Crimea. |
Evpatoria (Kezlev) - 70 kilometers from Bakhchisaray, it is widely recognized for its shallow, sandy sea, mild weather and numerous kid camps. On the way you pass Saki, a town famous for its black kil with recognized medical value. |

|
Tarkhankut - is Crimea that everyone has heard of, but very few people have actually seen. Far from the more visited touristic attractions, this is the area of really wild beaches, Goa-people, wonderful cristal-clear water, diving. 120 km. from us. |
Sevastopol - 60 km. from Bakhchisaray, has many interesting museums, installations, the Russian and Ukrainian fleets that can be seen by the tourists, the Fiolent cape, the ancient Greek Khersones, the Balaklava bay. |
Khersones - "for more than two thousand years was the political, cultural and economic center of the Northern Black Sea region". Enough said, 60 km. from Bakhchisaray |
Balaklava - a picturesque bay close to Sevastopol, a starting point for a variety of boat trips to the wild unaccessible beaches of this part of the Black Sea. |
Besides the hotel, we have our own small restaurant in the center of the Old Town, close to the Khan's Palace. It is called Musafir - in the Crimean Tatar means "Guest". We feel good recommending Musafir to our guests - it has a nice atmosphere, the Crimean Tatar kitchen is great, and we are confident in the quality of the food. The guests of Dilara-Hanum can order all dishes with substantial discounts, as well as agree for a fixed one or two-time meals that will cost 10 to 15 USD.
In Dilara-Hanum itself we propose only tea, coffee and sweets. There are also ample possibilities for self-cooking. We provide the necessary equipment for barbecu, and can help with purchasing the ingredients. This year we will also start a guest kitchen for self-cooking.
Of course, Bakhchisaray provides many more opportunities to eat out. There are places with Crimean Tatar, Uzbek, other Eastern, Russian and Western kitchen. Around the Khan's palace there are several nice Tatar restaurants - for example, Aliye and Efsane. Right in fron of the Khan's Palace there is a relatively new establishment with European and Russian kitchen - the Pushkin cafe. On the way to Chufut-Kale we can recommend Caravan-Sarai and Ashlama-Sarai - both with Tatar kitchen. Finally, on the way to Simferopol, about 5 km. from Bakhchisaray there is Markur, which is famous throughout Crimea for its good and inexpensive food.
